Bullying
Bullying and hazing are never allowed in Scouts.
The Guide to Safe Scouting states:
“Everyone is responsible for acting in accordance with the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Physical violence, sexual activity, emotional abuse, spiritual abuse, unauthorized weapons, hazing, discrimination, harassment, initiation rites, bullying, cyberbullying, theft, verbal insults, drugs, alcohol, and pornography have no place in the Scouting program and may result in revocation of membership”
“Adult leaders in Scouting units are responsible for monitoring the behavior of youth members and other leaders and interceding when necessary. If youth members misbehave, their parents should be informed and asked for assistance.”
The following incidents require an immediate report to the Scout executive:
- Any negative behavior associated with race, color, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, or disability
- Hazing and initiations are prohibited and have no part during any Scouting activity.
- All forms of bullying and harassment including verbal, physical, and cyberbullying are prohibited.
Troop 73’s Spirit Contract, signed by all Scouts & Parents states:
“BEHAVIOR – All Scouts will exemplify the ideals expressed in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. This means, among other things, no fighting, no foul language, no disregard for school or Troop property, and no harassment or bullying of other Scouts. Each Scout must show respect for himself, other Scouts, and parents and adult leaders.”
Troop 73’s Handbook:
“Severe and/or repetitive breaking of the Scout Law, which is the Ten Commandments of Scouting, will result in the Scout being disciplined. Disciplinary action will vary according to the severity of the infraction. Such action may include additional community or Troop service hours, possible exclusion from meetings or trips, delay or loss of advancement opportunities or leadership position, and as a last resort, dismissal from the Troop”
This applies to members of our Troop, members of other Scouting units, and those outside of Scouting. All Scouts and adults are expected to act according to the Scout Oath & Law to ALL people at ALL times.
It is taken very seriously, and if you are found to be participating in bullying activities, appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken including being sent home from trips or events at your expense.
If you are the target of bullying, please report it to adult leadership immediately so it can be addressed.
