Joseph Paul “JP” Zavodny, the 95th Eagle Scout from Troop 73, passed away March 24, 2025, at age 34.
He attended Holy Trinity Interparochial School and graduated from the Delbarton School in 2009. In 2013 he earned a dual bachelor’s degree in electrical and computer engineering at Johns Hopkins University, and he was honored with the William H. Huggins Award for Outstanding Service and Academic Achievement. After graduating with a Master’s
Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Johns Hopkins University in 2014, he worked at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab in Laurel, MD.
He was an active member of the Boy Scouts of America Westfield Troop 73 and obtained the rank of
Eagle Scout.
His family said on his obituary message board that his Eagle Scout project was to solicited donations for no longer wanted equipment. He led a team of volunteers to refurbish them in the family’s garage. As part of the project he donated over a dozen of the computers to a battered women’s shelter. They were given to women in need.
Troop 73 is honored to have JP among our ranks of Eagles.
