More than 200 people gathered at Holy Trinity School on June 11, 2023, to celebrate the end of another successful Scout year, present awards to adult leaders and Scouts, and officially recognize the two newest Eagle Scouts from Troop 73 and one from its sister troop, Troop 203 of Springfield.

New Jersey State Senator Jon Bramnick (NJ-21) and Westfield Mayor Shelley Brindle both spoke at the event and emphasized the importance of Scouting in today’s world, saying it’s needed now more than ever.

The Court of Honor recognized Troop 73 Scouts Cyril Maliakal and Jonathan Scalia, Eagles #152 and #153, respectively. The troop also honored Adam Matos of Troop 203, which is merging with Troop 73.

For his project Jonathan, who just graduated from Westfield High School, built a prayer garden where there was previously an overgrown area on the property of the Church of St. Helen in Westfield. Cyril, who is attending the University of Illinois Urbana, worked on a project at the Drake House in Plainfield, involving the classification of 19th and 20th century medicinal bottles, creating a virtual exhibit. Adam, who is attending Bates College in Maine, rejuvenated and stained the wooden structures of the 14 outdoor Stations of the Cross at St. Bartholomew Church in Scotch Plains.
